Chichester independent authors group CHINDI have organised a whole host of events in line with Chichester Festival 2017. So what have the authors got up their sleeve this year?

The timetable kicks off with a new event which is this Crime Writers’ Panel on June 20th 6.30pm. Three authors, Michael Parker, Helen Christmas and Christine Hammacott will introduce you to a world of crime fiction writing; from action thrillers to psychological suspense. Listen to a lively panel where they will talk about research, character development, creating exciting plot lines and what keeps a reader on the edge of their seat. An evening full of intrigue.

The next event (also new) is a Ghost Story Tour on June 21st starting at 6.30pm. Chichester Independent Authors and Bognor Regis Write Club will take you on a fun-filled walk around Chichester, to investigate a haunted past in its historic town centre. Meet at Hennings from 6.30pm for a glass of wine or soft drink, then have your blood curdled during our 45-minute ghost tour, where ghostly tales will be narrated outside various historic buildings. A self-guided tour book featuring a selection of ghost stories is included in the ticket price.

On June 22nd, there is a Self-publishing Workshop. Independent authors share their secrets on how to get your book published in print, as an e-book or audio book, telling you what it costs to design your cover, edit your book, what not to do and how to succeed.  With only 20 participants, this interactive workshop will cover which platforms to use to get your manuscript published, what to consider when designing your cover, the importance of proofreading and editing, and how to use social media as part of your marketing campaign. £10 admission Includes glass of wine or soft drink.

Winning That Publishing Deal: 23rd June. Last year Chindi romance author Jane Cable signed her first book deal. Following on from a self-publishing forum, Jane will talk about how publishing independently first was a vital step in her writing career and how the two approaches differ. Jane’s newest novel, ‘Another You’ has shot to the top of the Amazon charts, an exciting success story in the world of independent publishing.

Creative Writing Workshop: Founder of Chichester Independent Authors, Christopher Joyce will lead an interactive workshop on June 24th: a must for beginners or writers wishing to refresh their skills. We will cover plot development, creating great characters with exciting dialogue and more. Includes glass of wine or soft drink and cheese or charcuterie platter. Bring your laptops or writing materials and get writing. There will be a 30-minute lunch break on the day. Tickets £40.

The final event on June 24th is a Words and Wine Quiz from 6.30pm – 8pm. Join local authors and wine experts from Hennings in four rounds of questions about books and wine. Each wine round will end with a wine tasting with over £100 of prizes to be won. The event will include a glass of wine or soft drink in addition to the tastings. Maximum four people per team. Tickets £10.

All of the  events will be hosted at Hennings Wine Merchants, in the city’s North Street, tickets £8 unless stated. It looks to be a very exciting month.
