Chichester News six-a-side football team skipper Ryan Ewen reckons charity will be the real winner when his side take on Nuffield Health at Chichester College on Thursday.

The Chichester News has pledged to donate £100 to charity (to be chosen) if we lose the encounter, which kicks-off at 6.30pm. Nuffield Health, based at Chichester Gate, have pledged to field a strong side and they are determined to be victorious and see the coffers of a local charity boosted.

The inaugural match will be followed by weekly games against opposition from in and around the city. “For us it is a great way to give something back in the form of a charitable donation and the same time integrate more fully into the community,” said Ryan, CEO of Falbros, which owns Chichester News.

“Nuffield Health look to be a solid team with a smattering of youthful desire and experience so we will be tested. But we believe in our organisation and are hopeful of gaining a win. Of course, if we lose charity is the winner anyway so it’s all hugely positive.

“We have a couple of opponents confirmed for the next two weeks but we are also on the lookout for more opposition to take part in what will be a competitive game but played in a friendly and sporting atmosphere. If you want to play us please feel free to get in touch.”

Nuffield skipper Curtis Poole  said: “Nuffield Health are very excited to help give something back to the community and to get involved in this charity event, as a registered charity ourselves we understand the importance or charity and the benefits that can be created from local events like this, so thanks for getting the ball running hopefully this is the start of something new and refreshing for Chichester and for charity!

“We’ve put out a very strong, youthful team with an ex-county captain and a couple of Saturday league first team players to name a few. It’s Nuffield Health Club Chichester’s pledge that we will win meaning the £100 will be donated to charity of your choice.

“We are also fully aware win or lose that charity is the real winner and we will do what we can to support local community events. Bring on Thursday evening!”
