Chichester College students wowed audiences – and even sold out three of their five show run at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

They travelled to Scotland to perform their version of The Jungle Book at Greenside at Nicholson Square last month.

Visually stunning, the eye-catching costumes helped bring the colourful characters of Rudyard Kipling’s classic children’s story to life.

The performing arts students were supported by a team of stage management students, giving them hands-on, real-life experience in a busy theatre.

Jess Denham is studying stage management and operated the sound for the show. She said: “It was amazing. The best experience of my life!

“It was completely different, but it was an experience worth having. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the biggest theatre festival in the world, and to be a part of it was incredible. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”

It was the second time Chichester College have taken a show to Edinburgh, following on from Jason and the Golden Fleece last year. It’s hoped the college will be able to make a third trip next year with a new show.

Andrew Green, executive principal at the Chichester College Group, travelled with the students. He said: “It was a fantastic experience for our students, who grew so much in just a few days.

“The Fringe Festival is like nothing they would have experienced before – we share a theatre with other performers, so you have to get in, set up and then out again every day in just a few minutes – which is completely different!

“I’m really pleased with how much buzz they created when they were out marketing the show during the day too. To take a show to the other end of the country, compete against hundreds of productions and sell out three times is amazing.

“I’m incredibly proud of them, and the staff who have supported them over the past few months – ensuring this was an opportunity they could really enjoy.”
