BMW Executive Timo Resch to Lead Porsche Cars North America
Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) has recently appointed Timo Resch as its new President and CEO, effective from November. Resch, who has worked as Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales at BMW M, is a prominent figure in the automotive industry and is expected to bring his extensive experience to the new role. The appointment follows the departure of Kjell Gruner, who left PCNA to join Rivian Automotive as their Sales Chief in July.
Resch’s career started at Porsche in 1995 when he worked as a student in Zuffenhausen, Germany. Since then, he has held various positions at Porsche AG and Porsche Cars North America between 2007 and 2009, including leading the North American subsidiary’s product planning and market research unit. Resch has also worked in leadership roles at Audi and BMW, where he was responsible for global sales and marketing at BMW Motorrad, among other positions.
According to Detlev von Platen, Porsche’s sales boss, Resch’s experience in sales and marketing and his familiarity with the U.S. market make him an excellent fit for the new role. Von Platen expressed confidence in Resch’s ability to strengthen Porsche’s brand presence in North America and provide valuable momentum for future development.
Porsche’s U.S. sales are set to reach a three-year high this year, and the automaker has informed its dealers that it expects sales to reach 80,000 units in the United States next year, representing a nearly 15 percent increase from 2022. This growth is particularly exciting as Porsche is currently in the midst of an ambitious transition towards electric vehicles, which adds another exciting element to Resch’s leadership at Porsche Cars North America.
