TRAVEL firm boss George Mitchell is ready to place his faith in a clutch of young employees from the Chichester area to help his business flourish after announcing the opening of a new HQ.

Mitchell’s Travel has teamed up with Chichester College to launch a recruitment drive as it looks to fill three new posts available as apprenticeships.

George, managing director at West Sussex-based Mitchell’s Travel, joined his wife and business partner Angelina, in announcing the placements. He said:

“The travel industry has been hit massively through the pandemic but we are very much looking to the future when travel is once again permitted.

Holidays will be much-needed, we believe, with most of us ready for a break to try to help get over what we have been through with the various lockdowns and restrictions.

And as a result of our expansion with our new shop in we want to offer three young, hungry apprentices the chance to learn and grow with us with the help of Chichester College.”

And George, who started in the online travel business 18 months ago, added:

“We believe taking on apprentices and training them to meet the needs of our business is the best way to plug the skills gap and give an opportunity to youngsters keen to make an impact in our industry.

We’re really excited that we are able to offer career opportunities to at least three young people and offer them a secure future. Many have had a really difficult time trying to study at home in order to get the grades needed to take their next step in career.

We feel that apprenticeship schemes are one of the best sources of talent you can get and we look forward to being able to add to our team very soon. Youngsters today face a very different jobs market and, to be honest, it must be very daunting for them to map out their future.

We hope, in a small way, we can contribute to the community by giving these youngsters a chance by coming and working with us and learning all they can about the travel industry. Once the pandemic has been and gone, we feel that the industry will be more buoyant than ever before. It is an exciting sector to be in looking ahead.”

The move comes with the news that the firm is to open a new shop in nearby Bognor Regis town centre after moving in to offices in London Road that formerly housed travel agents Thomas Cook.

Extensive work is underway to transform the interior of the premises with an eye on opening for business by the end of next month or as soon as the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are lifted.

To apply, you need to follow the links to the “find an apprentice” links to the Gov.Uk website. The links to three apprenticeships can be found on Mitchell’s Travel Facebook page.
