Chichester City are looking for a new chairman after Brent Williams left the club following a three-year stint at the helm of the Oaklands Park outfit.

The exact details of his departure remain unclear but he has confirmed that he has left the club. A statement on the club’s website said: “Chichester City FC would like to confirm the news of Brent Williams leaving his role at the club. Brent has been a servant to Chichester City for many years and his dedication and personality will be missed behind the scenes. A full statement will be forthcoming.”

The former Pagham supremo, who spent five years at Nyetimber Lane, took over at City in the summer of 2014, and it was he who appointed current boss Miles Rutherford.

At the time of the appointment, Williams set out his goals for the SCFL Premier Division outfit, when he said: “I was a chairman at Pagham for five years and I know what it takes and I am sure we can achieve higher-league football here with Miles. I am confident he can make an impact here over a long time. To take this club forward I need a Miles Rutherford.

“I have been chairman for just over a season and the structure of the club has changed from top to bottom since I have been here.”

City, currently leading the table in the top flight, were dumped out of the Sussex Senior Cup in a 1-0 defeat at Haywards Heath Town on Tuesday in a game in which Kieran Hartley saw red.

A controversial goal from Karly Akehurst did the damage in this first round tie which saw visiting keeper Ant Ender save a penalty.

The deadlock was finally broken in the second half when a delivered corner seemed to touch the hand of a Heath player and fall into the back of the net. Despite City’s protests the goal was given.

Rutherford’s men host Horsham YMCA on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
