OpenAI Launches Internet Browsing Feature to ChatGPT
After several months of being inactive, OpenAI has officially released its internet-browsing feature to ChatGPT. The feature was first introduced in beta mode and after three weeks of testing, it is now available for use by users with an interest in browsing the internet.
Expanding ChatGPT’s Capabilities
For the past year, ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, has become a popular tool for generating conversation. However, due to its reliance on data up to September 2021, it was unable to function as a real-time search engine. In an effort to remedy this issue, OpenAI began integrating internet services into ChatGPT in March of this year. While this was a promising development, it came with significant risks. The internet is not curated in the same way that a static training dataset is, which leaves the system vulnerable to exploitation and chaos from bad actors and algorithms. Despite these risks, OpenAI pressed forward and began rolling out web search capabilities via Bing, which is owned by Microsoft, OpenAI’s corporate backer. By late June, the feature was even available on the ChatGPT mobile app. Unfortunately, the feature was quickly withdrawn when it was discovered that ChatGPT had the ability to display paywalled content. After several months of fine-tuning how ChatGPT follows the instructions of content owners, OpenAI re-introduced the Browse with Bing feature late in September.
Browse with Bing Now Available
Now, Browse with Bing is officially available to all Plus and Enterprise subscribers, with no need to toggle their beta switch in settings.
DALL-E 3 Integration
OpenAI recently launched the beta version of DALL-E 3, an advanced text-to-image generator. The latest version of DALL-E has been integrated with ChatGPT, which simplifies the process of generating images from text prompts. With ChatGPT, users can now provide less detailed text prompts and rely on the tool to fill in the gaps and generate images that are closer to their desired output. Additionally, DALL-E 3 is now embedded directly into ChatGPT, allowing users to receive images as part of their text-based queries without having to switch between multiple applications. This integration is set to revolutionize the way users generate images from text prompts, saving them time and effort in the process.
Vocal Range
OpenAI is taking its chatbot, ChatGPT, beyond text-based generation by incorporating audio and imagery into its capabilities. Recently, OpenAI gave ChatGPT the ability to have verbal conversations with users, integrating voice assistants with large language models. Additionally, ChatGPT will soon allow users to search for answers using images, enabling image recognition and retrieval. This move aligns with OpenAI’s broader strategy to make ChatGPT a fully integrated, real-time, multimedia generative search engine.
